For this playdough play invitation we added in a few key pieces: miniature dinosaurs, floral rocks, and fake plants so that the boys could create a dinosaur world.
We originally found this recipe on I Can Teach My Child, although the amounts below are what we usually use when we make it.
Chocolate Scented Playdough Ingredients
2 Cups Flour
1/2 Cup Cocoa Powder
2 1/2 cups water
1 1/4 cups salt
1 1/2 tablespoons water
5 tablespoons vegetable oil
Directions: Mix all of the dry ingredients in a large cooking pot. Add in the wet ingredients and mix quickly. Cook over a low heat, stirring constantly until the playdough forms into a sticky ball. Put onto a flat surface and knead until smooth.
Let cool on the counter top, or put into a ziplock bag and let cool with the top open. You can see more about our cooking process here.
The scent of this playdough is amazing! It smells just like fresh baked brownies!
Small World Play
For our Playdough Invitation I put out materials that could be used to create a dinosaur world. This included floral rocks, pieces of fake greens/plants (cut off a fake plant pot from the dollar store), and dinosaurs from the Safari Toob animals series.
The first day we played with the playdough, Little Brother loved setting up a small world with all of the different pieces. He spent quite a while building his world and having the dinosaurs talk and rearrange themselves.
We added this activity to Little Brother's Dinosaur Birthday party as well, and it was a huge hit with the kids attending the party!
This is definitely an activity we'll return to again - especially at other times we have some fun exploring dinosaurs!
This post may also have been shared at some of these terrific link parties.
