Each year we usually bring small flags for the boys to hold, but this year we decided to switch it up and create something else a little festive for the kids to hold: Fourth of July Star Wands.
Materials:
Red and blue felt
Patriotic ribbon (I was inspired by the rolls I found at JoAnn's for $1 each roll)
Red, white, and blue pony beads
Hot glue gun
Directions:
Fold the felt in half and cut out two star shapes at once. (I like to free draw my stars, but you can also trace them. You want both stars to be exactly the same.)
Place a dowel rod in the middle of one of the star shapes and warm up the hot glue gun. Once the glue gun is hot, put as much hot glue onto the star as possible (before it starts to cool.)
Place the other star on top of the glued star and squeeze the two stars together. If there are gaps around the edges squeeze a little more glue between the edges. As the glue cools, the star should stiffen.
Use scissors to trim any places the two stars do not line up.
Cut three strips of ribbon off of the roll and tie around the dowel rod. Onto the end of each ribbon thread one pony bead. Tie a small knot at the end of the ribbon.
The wands are now ready to be part of the holiday celebration!
We made several of the wands, so we could share them with our cousins too. We're looking forward to waving them at the parade!
