Soap Foam Car Wash Bins

If you've been reading our posts for a while you know we love transportation play. The other day we were looking for a new way to play with our matchbox cars. Lately many of them have been spending some time in our sand and water table and getting a little dirty. This has been inspiring Big Brother to pretend to wash them. I decided it would be fun to set up some car wash sensory play.

In the earlier stages of spring we discovered soap foam play from Fun at Home With Kids. We turned it into some really fun clean mud. It's such a cool, easy way to create a different sensory experience for kids.

For this round of soap foam play I used baby body wash. We used 1/4 cup of the soap and 5-6 tablespoons of water. (I found this soap needed a little more water than originally recommended.) We mixed the two ingredients on high speed in our stand mixer until the foam filled the bowl.
For the car wash set up I added in some old baby wash cloths, a scrubber, cut up sponges, and a few straight pieces of our race car tracks. In one bin I placed the soap foam, in a second bin I added some clean warm water for rinsing.

Both boys were interested immediately. I almost couldn't get any photos taken of the set up before they were in playing with the cars and foam.

They used the foam to wash the cars as they went though the track. Little Brother became engaged in putting the cars into the foam,

and then Big Brother would drive them down the track to be scrubbed and rinsed.

I love that Little Brother is starting to be more able to be involved in our play and finding activities that engage both of them at one time.

I'm also looking forward to discovering what other ways we can play with soap foam during the hot summer months!

  1. We love a good car wash but have never thought to add a bridge or car track in! Thanks for sharing!
