Fall Scavenger Hunt

On this chilly and rainy weekend, it's hard to remember back a week to the gorgeous fall days we've been having up until now. But, really, we've been pretty lucky this fall season. We've had so many incredible weather days.

It was on one of these beautiful days that the boys and I took a quick walk up a local trail after school. As we hiked we used this printable scavenger hunt to collect some fun fall items!
I love finding ways to add an element of learning and engagement to our afternoon adventures, in this case a chance to explore the colors and textures of fall. And as usual for our after school projects, I try to keep it as simple as possible.

Materials:
Printable Fall Scavenger Hunt (2 per sheet) (click on the link to download)
Brown Paper Bags
Pencil

This scavenger hunt can be done just about anywhere - the backyard, a trail, a local park. It can be done individually or as a group. In our case, we decided to work on it together. We used one bag for all three of us.

As we walked, we kept track of what we had found and not found on our Scavenger Hunt List. If we found something we added it to our bag and checked it off the list.

We found that for some things we had lots of options, while with other categories we had to think a little bit or search a little harder.

In the end, we wound up with a lot of leaves but I would love to try it again now that it's a little later in the fall and see if we can find other objects too.

What objects do you think kids might find in your area? Before fall passes us by, I'd encourage you to get outside and try it!
