Red, White, & Blue Oatmeal Cookies

We love experimenting with different ingredients in oatmeal cookies, a few weeks ago we posted our favorite Chocolate Chip Craisin Cookies. We also love holiday recipes, and this week we decided to combine the two with our new recipe for Red, White, and Blue Oatmeal Cookies.

The colors come from the add-ins: red craisins, white chocolate chips, and blue dried blueberries. The combination is yummy and creates the three colors with out artificial dyes.

As always Big Brother was eager to help with the creating of the cookies, which included sampling the ingredients. This time he wanted to try mixing the ingredients by hand, but quickly discovered he liked the mixer better!

Ingredients
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup softened butter
1 egg
1/4 cup water
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla
3 cups regular oats
1 cup flour
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 cup white chocolate chips
1/2 cup craisins
1/2 cup dried blueberries

The nice colors of the add-ins before they were mixed in.
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit.

2. Mix the brown sugar, granulated sugar, butter, egg, water, and vanilla into the mixing bowl on medium speed.

3. Add in the oats, flour, salt, baking soda, and cinnamon into the mixing bowl. Mix the batter on low speed until it is throughly mixed.

4. Gently mix in the white chocolate chips, craisins, and dried blueberries.

5. Scoop the cookie dough on to a tray in large, heaping teaspoons about 1 to 2 inches apart. (I find these cookies bake beautifully when you use parchment paper.)

6. Bake the cookies for about 12-15 minutes. They will look a little soft when you take them out, and they need a few minutes to cool on the tray and set up before you transfer them to a wire rack.

7. After the cookies cool, enjoy!!

Although these are great for the Fourth of July, and other American holiday weekends, they taste yummy enough to make on a regular basis too!
