A Treasure Box for Daddy

We made this box last year for Daddy for Father's Day. We couldn't share it then as we wanted to keep it a surprise. But with Father's Day 2014 right around the corner it seemed like a great time to share.

Around this time last year I noticed that many little trinkets were piling up on my husband's dresser. The pile especially included little surprises created by Big Brother, as well as a few other special items.
I spotted an unfinished photo box at Michael's and knew we could turn that into a wonderful Father's Day Gift.

To begin with we painted the box a nice dark brown color. Big Brother did most of the painting. We used a craft acrylic paint.

It took us a few sittings to finish painting the box brown as we painted it both on the outside and inside.

When the box was fully painted and had dried we painted one of each of the boys' feet white and printed it onto the box. I painted Big Brother's foot, and he painted Little Brother's foot. We did foot prints instead of hand prints because of the width of he box. But also because it is really had to get a good handprint painting with infants due to their reflexes.

After the foot prints had dried I used a silver permanent marker to write "Daddy" on to the box. I also added this little poem (which was a blend of several I'd seen on Pinterest.)

"Our feet our small,
and our hands are too.
But our hearts are full
of love for you."

Later I wrote their names next to each print with the same silver marker and added a Father's Day message on the bottom of the box.
I inserted a small picture of the four of us from earlier in the spring.

The box has stayed on Daddy's dresser all year.
What do you have planned as part of your celebrations this year? Are you making a gift?
